Tailored Education
The ethos at Brampton College is to ensure that each student is treated as an individual and has a programme tailored to meet their academic goals, especially in aiming to obtain the qualifications, needed to seek entry to TOP UK universities. In addition:
- Students will be taught in small classes with native British students.
- English language skills will be developed as necessary through classes leading to the IELTs examination. Students will need to obtain a minimum of IELTs level 6.5 for entry to UK universities, or 7.5+ for competitive Universities such as Oxford, Cambridge or Imperial College.
- Full individual support will be given to complete University applications (UCAS form).
Outstanding Results
Our international students achieve outstanding results every year.
Many have gone on to top Universities including Oxford, Cambridge and Warwick, Imperial College, University College London and the London School of Economics.
Ongoing Support
We realise that students arriving from overseas often need a little extra care and attention, as they are a long way from home and family. Each student will be allocated a specialist ‘Personal Tutor’ who is experienced in supporting international students.
At the beginning of each academic year an induction programme is organised to ensure that your introduction into the College goes as smoothly as possible. There is then an on-going programme of study skills support.
Accommodation
It’s critically important to us that our international students are living somewhere they feel comfortable, cared for and safe. Currently many of our international students organise their own guardian and accommodation. However, our friendly and experienced team at Brampton College will happily speak to you about your personal requirements for accommodation and work hard to find the right place for you.
We offer two accommodation options which we can discuss with you. Both are registered with the British Council:
- For students aged 15-17, we offer Homestay. Brampton College will help you find a host family to live with where you will benefit from the opportunity to experience British culture and language within a safe and welcoming home environment.
- For students aged 18+, we offer the option of high quality, safe and secure student accommodation, located 10 minutes from the college and close to an underground station. Students benefit from comfortable, modern ensuite rooms with an onsite supermarket, cafes and everything a student in London may need.
Regular Feedback
- Regular fortnightly reports and target setting with the Personal Tutor.
- Termly written reports and reports on mock examinations.
- All reports available for parents to access online to follow progress closely.
- Parents’ Evenings in both the Autumn and Spring terms which we expect Guardians and the students themselves to attend.
Support with IELTs
All students who are not native English speakers, and do not already have a suitable English language qualification, need to take IELTs, the public exam needed to demonstrate competency in English for University entrance. The aim of the course is to give students the skills needed to obtain the required score for university, which is normally a minimum of 6.5.
Additionally, some students may need to have a current IELTs certificate for immigration purposes if their home country is not defined as majority English speaking by UKVI.
At Brampton College, there are three classes a week to practise the key skills – reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Students will become familiar with the format of the exam and improve exam technique by regularly taking past papers.
Students are encouraged to take the IELTs test at a local centre when they are ready. This can be at any point during the year.
Extra-Curricular Activities
A number of trips, outings and lunches are organised to help the students settle into life in the UK. Over many years our international students have enjoyed boat trips to Greenwich, tours of Canary Wharf, ice-skating at Somerset House, a vertiginous cycle on the impressive London Eye, a Monopoly Run round London as well as celebrations of Chinese and Persian New Year and Ten Pin Bowling.
Location
The College is conveniently located in a safe and peaceful residential area of north west London, with excellent transport links to central London.
