Elijah Deal has just achieved an A*A*AB in his A levels and plans to apply for Engineering after a gap year. Here he tells us about his experience of Brampton College.

“I came to Brampton from JFS where I was really miserable. My older sister was already at Brampton so I already knew it was a really great school. We found out that they also offered a GCSE course so moved here straightaway.

My experience has been amazing. You have the freedom to be more independent but it’s also a place which motivates you to work hard. The teachers are always happy to help which is a huge contrast to my previous school. I feel like I’m leaving a different person to the one who arrived here. I’ve made a lot of new friends and my confidence has grown. Thank you for all your help and support which made it possible to get these high grades.”

We were also delighted to hear from Elijah’s mum, who was with him on results day and was keen to give her view of the College.

“It has been an equally good experience for both my children who came here. I’d heard of Brampton as a lot of my friends had sent their kids here and highly recommended it.

For my daughter, from the get-go, Brampton was a different experience – the classes were small and the teachers genuinely cared. There are no silly rules here, the focus is really on the important things like making sure students are working hard, committed, being a good person and enjoying lots of different things. So for her, the experience really was transformative and she loved it.

In terms of Elijah, he was absolutely miserable at his previous school. He was so anxious to the point that he was rarely going into school and it was all becoming bit of a disaster. The grades he was achieving were incredibly low, though he’s a very smart kid. We finally decided to take the plunge and move him to Brampton in year 11 which was a difficult decision to make as he was half way through his GCSE course. Immediately the smaller classes, the teacher input, the care from the teachers and their understanding of his anxieties – and what was needed to make him feel comfortable – was just amazing.

Within a year he got exactly what he wanted and decided to stay on for his A levels. Seeing him as a kid, from a parent’s perspective, he is more confident, he flourishes in small groups and to see him with his friends today was as much an achievement as were the results. Thank you to all the staff who have helped him in every which way. It’s been an amazing experience and thank you to those who also helped my daughter. When people ask me, I never hesitate to recommend Brampton.”
